About the Independent Beer Awards

Our national awards are a unique, annual celebration of the best of the best independent craft beers and the people their artisan producers.

The competition is offered by a dedicated Board, led and developed by a committed Advisory Committee, overseen by a highly experienced Head Judge and more than 50 of the best judges from Australia & New Zealand and delivered by a hardworking and passionate team with the support of our highly valued stewards. The vast majority of which are volunteers!

We differ from other beer competitions in Australia not only because the Awards are run by a membership organisation but also because the benefit for entrants continues well past the night of the ceremony.

By setting the standards of the competition high and pursuing excellence in quality The Indies form an integral part of our mission to driving consumers to understand the medal/trophy process and when considering their purchase, to always #AskforIndieBeer.

Each year we host the judging hub (usually 3-4 days of intense beer tasting from 8.30am – 6pm) and ceremony in a different state.

This ensures we shine a light on the local beer market and allows us to further our [Pathway to Judging Program] which aims to provide opportunities for all who want to start or grow their experience by learning from the best of the best.

This year we are looking forward to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Awards in Perth alongside our pals at the West Australian Brewers Association and their Beer & Brewing Conference.
