The Independent Brewers Association (IBA) (ABN 96 866 105 506) is committed to protecting your personal information.
We maintain all personal information in accordance with the 13 Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988, which regulates how we collect, use and keep secure your personal information.
Personal Information is any information that identifies you or by which your identity can be reasonably determined. We will always be honest and transparent about how we use your personal information. All information collected by the Independent Brewers Association is in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and will only be disclosed in accordance with these Principles.
This Policy sets out the types of personal information that we may collect and how that personal information will be used, disclosed, and protected. This Policy also explains how you can access or amend any personal information we hold about you, and how you may make a complaint.
As an industry association, we collect personal information from members, suppliers, event attendees, staff and industry supporters to provide you with the best possible service.
Personal Information that we may collect and hold about you includes:
- Your name, mailing and /or street address, phone numbers and email addresses
- Organisation you work for.
- Social media username or handle
- Information pertaining to judging (including position title, other memberships, qualifications, experience and resume)
Wherever possible, we will collect personal information directly from you, except where you have consented to us collecting the personal information from a third party, the law permits us to do so or it is unreasonable or impractical to do so.
You may decide to provide your Personal Information to us for various reasons such as when you:
- Register with us as a member
- Subscribe to our e-news
- Register for our events
- Enquire about our services
- Provide feedback or complaints about our services and events
- Post comments or submit publicly available content on our social media channels
- Applying for a job vacancy or volunteering with us
We may also collect information from other sources such as written materials sent to us, emails, and publicly available sources such as newspapers, social media, websites, directories and public registers.
Any personal information that you provide to IBA will be used for the purpose for which you disclosed it to us. We may also use and or/disclose your Personal Information for other purposes which you consent to or which are required or permitted by law.
This may include for a secondary purpose that is related to a purpose for which we collected it, and for which you would reasonably expect us to use or disclose your Personal Information.
The IBA will not disclose Personal Information to any third parties except:
- If you sign up with us as an Associate Member, we will list the name and contact number you provide us with, and details to identify your business, on our website's Supplier Directory. You can tell us at any time if you do not want to be listed.
- Where we are required or authorised to do so by law.
- To other companies or individuals who assist us in providing services or who perform functions on our behalf (such as third party service providers, specialist consultants, hosting and data storage providers); or
- Where you have consented to the disclosure.
Some anonymous demographics information may be provided to advertisers so they can assess whether they wish to participate in advertising, and if so, this information may play a role in the design of their advertisements for the website or mobile apps. All information disclosed in these circumstances will be stripped entirely of all Personal Information so that it does not identify you.
Except as otherwise stated, we do not disclose or publish Personal Information collected through our website without your express consent.
Where personal information is disclosed with third parties, we will take all reasonable steps to ensure third parties use this information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.
We do not disclose your Personal Information overseas.
If you do not want to receive these communications, you can unsubscribe from our mailing lists at any time. We include an unsubscribe facility in all emails and SMS we send you.

We also encourage you to keep your Personal Information secure, by maintaining the confidentiality of any passwords and account details used on our website. It is your sole responsibility to maintain such confidentiality and the IBA will not be liable for any damage, loss or expense suffered due to such disclosure.
We take steps to securely destroy or de-identify information that we longer require.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that all your personal information that we collect, use or disclose is accurate and up to date.
If you believe there are errors or omissions in your Personal Information that we hold, please notify us and we will endeavour to correct or add the information as soon as possible.
You may request access to your Personal Information and/or membership records, held by us (subject to some exceptions allowed by law) by submitting a written request to communications@iba.org.au
All requests for access to personal information will require the applicant to supply documentary proof of identity such as their Drivers Licence to support their request, and this evidence will not be held by us after identification is verified.
Upon verification of your ID, we undertake to provide you access to your records within 7 business days.

We take complaints and breaches of the APPs very seriously and will investigate any complaint we receive and respond as soon as reasonably practicable.
If your complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australia Information Commissioner (OAIC) using the online Privacy Complaints Form, which can be accessed via the OAIC’s website at http://www.oaic.goc.au/privacy/making-a-privacy-complaint.
