The Independent Brewers Association is relaunching the Tasmanian Beer Trail, with support from the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth, to strengthen beer tourism in Tasmania.

“Tasmania is renowned for its food and beverage culture, and brewing has a long and proud history in the State.  We are confident that a renewed focus on a Tasmanian Beer Trail will encourage locals, domestic and international tourists to experience the amazing hospitality Tasmania’s breweries have to offer,”  says Sabrina Kunz, Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Brewers Association.

Thanks to research from the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, we know that tourist trips including a brewery visit are much more likely to go sightseeing and participate in nature-based activities such as visiting national parks and bushwalking – and that Tasmania already has a higher share of trips that include a brewery visit than the average leisure and business trip.

“We know that the beer in Tasmania is special and we are looking forward to bringing brewery visits to the forefront of the tourism experience in Tasmania.”

Cornel Ianculovici, General Manager at Shambles Brewery and IBA Southern Tasmania Regional Lead.

The IBA has appointed Joshua Tompkins to lead the delivery of the Tasmania Beer trail project. Joshua brings deep experience in the management of largescale complex projects as well as a love for the brewing industry.  He relocated from Perth to the Tamar Valley in 2022 and works as a staff brewer at FermentHQ.

Sabrina Kunz says, “having someone with boots-on-the ground in Tasmania with strong project management experience will ensure this project is completed on time and on budget and that the IBA can continue to deliver for our members and the broader brewing community.”

We want to thank Jon Burridge who worked for many years in the background on behalf of the IBA to help bring this project to life.

We also want to thank the Tasmanian Government through the Department of State Growth who have championed the value that enhanced beer tourism can bring to benefit Tasmania”. Says Sabrina Kunz, Chief Executive Officer.

Breweries in Tasmania will be contacted by the IBA in the coming weeks as the project kicks-off with delivery slated for November ahead of the busy summer tourist season.
