ACCC finally listens to independent breweries

The Independent Brewers Association (IBA) welcome’s the ACCC’s decision to support competition in the brewing supply chain.

While issues about competition in the brewing industry have been considered by the ACCC on a number of previous occasions, this is the first time the concerns of independent breweries have been given the weight they deserve in the decision making process.

The IBA made a number of submissions in response to the proposed acquisition by MicroStar of Konvoy, due to the overwhelming feedback from our membership.   We are pleased that the ACCC decision directly addresses many of the concerns raised by us, and our independent brewing members.

What this decision also demonstrates is that the independent brewing sector makes a meaningful impact to the Australian economy and, that together with our members we can ensure that our voices are heard on the issues that affect us.

“We look forward to working with Konvoy and Kegstar moving forward.

We know that we all ultimately share the same goal, which is to see a robust independent brewing industry that continues to offer Australian consumers the choice of locally made, high quality beer and best-in-class hospitality experiences,”  says Sabrina Kunz, Chief Executive Officer, IBA.
