The Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA’s) is the largest annual beer competition in the world. Trophies and medals are awarded only after expert judges blind tasted almost 2,300 beers over multiple rounds.

This year independent breweries took out all of the major Australian trophies at the AIBA’s and 15 of the 22 style class trophies.

In a competition that includes all the brands owned by the foreign multi-nationals, alongside international breweries, this clearly shows that Australian independent breweries are punching well above their weight producing the highest quality beer.

Through a new partnership with the AIBA’s, the Independent Brewers Association was thrilled to see the introduction of two trophies in 2025 – Champion Australian Independent Beer and Champion Australian Independent Brewery.

Champion Australian Independent Beer and Champion Australian Beer were awarded to Wedgetail Brewing a tiny brewery hailing from Falcon, Western Australia for their Dark Lager.

Champion Australian Independent Brewery was awarded to Philter Brewing who were also took home a swag of trophies, also claiming Champion Medium Australian Brewery, Best Australian Style Pale Ale (XPA), and Best Modern IPA (Haze).

With independent breweries from every corner of Australia having been judged as the best of the best – now’s the time for consumers around the nation to support their local brewery – knowing they are not just supporting an Australian owned business but that they are experiencing the highest quality beer in the country.
