FSANZ have confirmed that they are putting on hold “Proposal P1058- Nutrition labelling about added sugars’.

FSANZ’s work on proposal P1058 has been paused while they undertake scoping work on a holistic review of the Nutrition Information Panels (NIP). It is intended the NIP review work will be undertaken in parallel with preparatory work on the Health Star Rating system to inform ministers’ future decision-making on mandating the system. At the recent Food Ministers Forum, Ministers’ noted that coordinated work on both the front (Health Star) and back (NIP) of packaged food presents an opportunity to optimise nutrition labelling to support consumers to make healthy food choices.

What this means for members is that we will have another opportunity to provide input on the new Health Star and NIP work stream. At this stage we do not know what the timing or stages of that work will be but will provide information as soon as we have it.
