Western Australian Craft Beer Strategy launched

The first ever Western Australian Craft Beer Strategy was launched at the 2024 West Australian Brewers Conference on 2 August 2024.
This ambitious plan aims to boost local production and create jobs, building on the already important contribution made by the industry which is currently calculated at an estimated $648 million.
The inaugural Western Australian Craft Beer Strategy brings together all parts of the craft beer supply chain to drive forward a unified and sustainable industry and to promote the Paddock to Pint visitor experience.
The industry-led strategy aims to boost production, with the ambitious goal of tripling either the volume or value of locally produced beer over ten years. It also strives to improve supply chain integration, including those that produce homegrown barley, hops and malt, and the local businesses that provide packaging, distribution and retail services.
WA is considered to be the birthplace of Australia’s craft beer sector, with the establishment of a handful of now iconic breweries in Perth in the 1980’s and ‘90s. There are now more than 120 breweries across the metropolitan area and regional WA, representing approx. 20% of the national industry.
The Strategy was made possible by the generous contribution of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and is proudly established as a partnering initiative with the Independent Brewers Association, Western Australian Brewers Association and South West Brewers Alliance.
The five strategic priorities include:
1) Industry leadership
2) Brand awareness
3) Market access and export opportunities
4) Supply chain management, and;
5) Regulation
